There's one sentence that really struck me today: our tendency "to stop regarding God as worthy of our worship simply because of who he is, and to start offering conditional worship instead on the basis of what he does for us" (p. 35). We so easily thank God when something good happens, and then feel we have a right to complain to God when things don't go the way we wanted. I'm reminded of the words of one of our Eucharistic prayers, "it is indeed right, in all times and in all places, to give you thanks and praise". That includes the difficult times and the painful places, which can only be transformed when we can still connect with God and even praise God within them.
